Property
White or milk white crystalline powder.
Melting point of 158-158. Soluble in hot water, slightly soluble in ethanol, slightly soluble in water or chloroform, slightly soluble in ether. Slightly salty taste bitter.
Application
Treating anaerobic bacteria, amoeba, and trichomonad infections. Metronidazole is a synthetic antimicrobial antibiotic, used to treat acne rosacea (adult acne), vaginal trichomoniasis, anaerobic bacterial infections, and intestinal ameobiasis. It is effective against certain protozoal infections, especially Giardia.
